 November 8, 2005

STARWOOD HOTELS & RESORTS HAWAII SENT ALOHA TO THE CHICAGO FESTIVALS THANKSGIVING DAY PARADE

Honolulu, Hawaii – This Thanksgiving, Starwood Hotels & Resorts Hawaii sent Chicago some warm aloha and island melodies via nationally acclaimed singer Danny Couch through its participation in the Chicago Festivals 2005 State Street Thanksgiving Parade™.

Thursday, November 24, 2005, Couch  performed on Starwood Hotels & Resorts Hawaii’s float. Singing his new Christmas song titled “Christmas in Hawaii” along with “Hawaii My Paradise” surrounded by hula dancers and parade spectators.

A star of the world-renowned Don Ho Show, Couch has opened for many top acts including Paul Anka, Glen Campbell, Neil Sedaka, and Dionne Warwick.  He also performed a special duet with Dolly Parton, who proclaimed him “the Golden Voice of Hawaii.” Keith Vieira, senior vice president, operations of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Hawaii & French Polynesia stated, “As both a local and national icon of Hawaii entertainment, Danny Couch is the perfect ambassador to spread the warmth of Hawaii and share Starwood Hawaii’s Flavors of Island Music.”

Starwood Hotels & Resorts Hawaii recently launched the Flavors of Island Music initiative, which showcases their musical offerings and supports and creates events that perpetuate diverse styles of island music. With more than 200 local artists who perform at all eleven properties on a daily basis, Starwood Hawaii is committed to continue the legacy of Hawaii’s special music. “We are participating in the Chicago parade to bring our music and the warmth of Hawaii to the mainland as they head into winter. Consider it an invitation to come and experience Hawaii’s melodies while sitting beachfront at one of our Starwood properties throughout the state,” said Vieira.

Couch will also perform during the 2005 Sheraton Hawaii Bowl’s halftime show, nationally televised on ESPN on Christmas Eve, broadcast from the Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, Hawaii.

STARWOOD HAWAI‘I LAUNCHES FLAVORS OF ISLAND MUSIC CAMPAIGN

With Concert Featuring Michael Ruff, Robi Kahakalau, Sean Na‘auao, Danny Couch, Ka‘ala Boys, The Zanuck Lindsey Trio, Ells Simeona and Dwight Kanae

As part of its commitment to continue the legacy of Hawai‘i’s music, Starwood Hotels & Resorts is launching “Starwood Hawai‘i’s Flavors of Island Music,” a campaign that celebrates the entertainers and sounds of our islands.   A free concert to kick off the campaign took place on Wednesday, September 7, 2005, at the Sheraton Moana Surfrider, a hotel that has featured island entertainers since its opening day in 1901.   The campaign will continue with additional concerts and musical events that will highlight Hawai‘i’s musical talent and diversity through the year and into 2006.

Signature performers who play nightly at Starwood’s 13 resorts across the state will come together and share the stage at the Flavors of Island Music Concert.  Scheduled entertainers include nationally-acclaimed songwriter and musical artist Michael Ruff, who performs at Princeville Resort; international musical idol Danny Couch, and Hoku Award winners Sean Na`auao, Ka`ala Boys and Robi Kahakalau, who take the stage at Sheraton Hotels in Waikiki.  In addition, the lineup includes The Zanuck Lindsey Trio, Ells Simeona and Dwight Kanae who also perform at the Sheraton Hotels in Waikiki.

“We are proud to showcase Hawai‘i’s favorite entertainers to visitors and residents at our hotel venues across the state,” said Keith Vieira, senior vice president & director of operations for Starwood Hotels & Resorts Hawai‘i & French Polynesia.  “The romance with Waikiki and the islands partly began through images conjured up by the exotic sounds of the ukulele and the melodic voices of entertainers who performed at the Moana and The Royal Hawaiian during the early days of tourism.  We want to do our part to keep this legacy of island music alive.
