"Here we are again with another CD. I put
together eleven songs - five of which I wrote and others that I like very much.
I love all types of music from pop to classic, to local. I cannot be stuck on
just one type of music. I wrote "When Hawaiians Fall" as a tribute to Hawaiian
entertainers who are no longer with us in body, but are with us in spirit and
music. Most of these people are not pure Hawaiian, but are of mixed ethnic
background. I'm not referring to race, but to the spirit of this place as
follows: I chose Israel Kamakawiwo'ole ("Men Who Ride Mountains" & "Somewhere
Over The Rainbow"), Loyal Garner ("Ha'a Hula"), Arthur Lyman ("Yellow Bird"),
Gabby Pahinui ("Hi'ilawe"), Mackey Feary ("Night Bird" & "The Hurt"), and Moe
Keale ("A Part of Me, A Part of You"), and gave you a hint of the songs that
made them famous, and touched hearts locally, and around the world. I believe "Kuuipo"
is the type of song for the ages. "Let's Go Back to the Country", is a song I
wrote about the place I grew up and love, - not to minimize the importance of
other places in Hawaii, because I love all "These Islands". Every place has its
"country". "I Want To Spend My Lifetime Loving You" introduces my daughter,
Daena (her first time recording). I wrote "Tamara" because I love that name.
I've included the words to the 4 new songs I have written, the rest of the songs
are great songs and are self-explanatory.
I hope they will all leave you with "Something to Remember", and that you enjoy
the album. God Bless." ~ Danny Couch

The 26th Annual Na Hoku Hanohano Awards honor the Best in Hawaiian Music.
The Hoku's took place May 28, and Danny has been Awarded The Hoku for Best Contemporary Album of the Year. The Hoku's reward the achievements of Excellence in The Recording Arts. (Equivalent to the Mainland Grammy's) The final ballot is made up of a maximum of five of the top voted preliminary ballot nominees in each category. Awards Presentation took place at the Sheraton Waikiki Ballroom. Live TV coverage took place in Hawaii and parts of California on KFVE. This event is something I will not quickly forget. For me it was almost overwhelming to put names to faces of some of the people I have listened to and respected, and it was quite an honor to have the opportunity of meeting them. All of them bedecked in their finest and laden with the most gorgeous floral and ribbon leis you can imagine, each one different and echoing every color of the rainbow. Every part of the evening is etched in my memory. Being able to see the Hawaiian tradition represented throughout the evening is a splendor that's difficult to explain to someone who has not experienced it or lacks the love of Hawaiian Music. But each and every participant had something in common.. Beautiful Hawaiian Music! The honor was even more heartfelt having the opportunity of actually knowing one of those that was being acknowledged with a Hoku Nomination and seeing him end up honored as the Best of the Best. Tears of joy and happiness flowed from all of our eyes in the success of Danny's work of art now being recognized. Being able to see the pride he has while holding his well deserved award, as that smile of pride and joy graces his face. It doesn't get any better.
Danny's excitement and that of his family was contagious and I'm so proud
to have been allowed to participate. I wish you all could have been there
and witness this fine moment.
